131-1127Secretary General Jan Malikov collapsed during a public appearance
today, and Solomani officials were forced to admit that he had been seriously
wounded during the assassination attempt several weeks ago. Malikov was
addressing a small group of government officials (the speech was outdoors and
televised live) when he began to wobble and his speech became slurred. He
fell into the arms of one of his aides, and was taken indoors immediately. A
statement issued later admitted that Malikov was wounded during the attempt
on his life, but did not want to worry the public with reports of his
condition. A few hours after his collapse, he was shown awake in his hospital
bed, but he did not speak.Ω
